Two of us enjoyed drinks made with locally produced Tom Cat gin, while the other had a beer. Unfortunately, the cheese board we ordered was a disappointment. While the cheese was excellent, the accompanying items that typically elevate a cheese board fell flat. We received a tiny dollop of honey, a few shaved almonds, and lackluster dried fruit. We then ordered a bottle of wine to complement our dinner. Our server was young and very courteous, but it was clear she was preparing for a busy night ahead. I chose the fish tacos, and though I typically love them, these were merely okay. The fish was fried, and the vegetables that accompanied it were lackluster. Both of my friends felt similarly underwhelmed by their meals. If Hardwick Street Cafe wants to improve, they need to have someone in the kitchen focusing on quality and freshness. Would I return? I might visit the bar again, but I'm inclined to check out another nearby restaurant for my next meal.
Nestled in the heart of Northern Vermont, this restaurant exemplifies how a local, foodie-driven agricultural economy can balance high culinary aspirations with affordable options for those on a budget. We initially visited for the art but were pleasantly surprised by the charming café. The menu was straightforward yet abundant in choices. My wife ordered the chicken and raved about how fantastic it was. While free-range chicken can sometimes be tough, this was cooked perfectly and incredibly tender. I opted for the cheeseburger and can wholeheartedly agree with the positive reviews I’ve seen about it here.
Tucked away from the typical tourist spots, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit. The burgers are delightful, and there are some intriguing dishes on the menu, such as the Brazilian Fish Stew, which we didn't get a chance to try. We ordered the Quesadilla Special, featuring cheddar cheese, bacon, and apple slices, accompanied by a fresh side salad—surprisingly filling for lunch! The espresso was fantastic as well. There is a wide selection of desserts, all seemingly made fresh every day. The service was attentive, the ambiance was peaceful, and we enjoyed scenic views from the windows.
We stopped here for breakfast on our way to Hill Farmstead. They had a small breakfast menu written on a chalkboard: fruit and yogurt, baked good of the day, and two egg dishes. We had the lemon ginger scone then got the breakfast sandwich and breakfast tostada, both were great and beautifully plated! Our waitress was very kind and the place was sparkling clean and well-decorated with a huge patio. Would definitely return!
Fantastic brunch. This was the bread pudding french toast with peaches and whipped cream. Usually I'm wary of ordering bread pudding as I find they are dense but this was a nice surprise. Even though it was way too much for me, it was airy and delicious. Not over done on the maple side and the peaches added just enough sweetness. Fresh whipped cream without a ton of sugar was also an added bonus. My husband had the vegetable and potato hash topped with an egg. Potatoes were cooked perfectly, firm without being mushy. Veggies weren't over cooked either which is refreshing as dishes like this get soggy as the day progresses. The over easy egg was perfection. Obviously they now have a chef who knows her stuff. Eating outside on a beautiful morning just topped off our experience. If your looking for a cozy place that's quiet and elegant without the elegant cost Hardwick Cafe The Highland Center for the arts is a must! Kudos!
