Island Chef - Hana

Make sure you stop at the ATM and grab some cash before you get on the road to Hana, then give it all to this guy!! I've never enjoyed fried fish before but this man made the most amazing marlin ever! Also just an amazing vibe. All the love for the island chef... And the cute little one-eyed cat wondering around there

Stopped here on way to hana. the wife and i loved the fish and chips. the fish was yummy with the chili sauce and fries were tasty! guy cooking was super laid back!!

The coconut shrimp here was very good but my family asked for five orders and the woman refused. She said if she sold us five then she would run out so we could only have four and one order of fish and chips. This struck me as...odd to say the least. The fries also seemed like they were frozen. For $20 I would have expected more of them, but the coconut shrimp made it worth it.

I enjoyed the Fresh Blue Marlin and Coconut Shrimp. The batter on the fish was light, airy, and absolutely delicious. The fish itself was incredibly fresh. The coconut shrimp was generously sized and had a wonderful flavor that wasn't overly sweet. All the sauces—tartar, cocktail, and sweet chili—were spot on. The owner was very friendly, adding to the great experience.

On our way back to Kihei via the Hana Highway, we delighted in the coconut shrimp and were treated to an extra piece of blue marlin that had been caught that very morning, courtesy of the chef. The coconut shrimp was incredibly fresh, and the blue marlin had a wonderful taste of the sea! The covered dining area was perfect for sheltering us from a couple of unexpected downpours, adding to the overall charming atmosphere. Please note that Island Chef only accepts cash and does not serve drinks, so be sure to plan accordingly. While the prices were higher than some other restaurants we visited in Maui, this spot is an excellent choice for a meal while traveling along the Road to Hana.
