Taqueria El Jarocho 2 - Hayward

This restaurant is a complete joke. It took them 45 minutes to prepare my single burrito. Food rating: 1/5.

I ordered a straightforward super burrito with asada, and it was fantastic. The meat was perfectly cooked and juicy, without being dry. Unlike other places I've been, it wasn't overloaded with rice or dripping in grease. Additionally, the side of chips was very generous. I would definitely return to try more menu items!

When I asked for cebollitas, the lady informed me there would be a $2 charge, which I was fine with. However, when I opened the container, I found grilled onions and jalapeños instead. I requested a refund, but she just exchanged glances with her coworkers and gave a confused look. She then claimed that she had mentioned cebolla, but I clearly said cebollita. I didn’t want to argue with her; I knew what I had ordered. It seemed like she might have misunderstood since she appeared to be from Central America, but that's beside the point. On a brighter note, the horchata was quite good.

I truly regret dining here because the food was awful. The restaurant is small and a bit rundown, but I was so hungry that it didn't bother me much. I ordered the chilaquiles with egg, and what was served to me was the saddest-looking plate of chilaquiles I’ve ever encountered. The tortilla chips were mushy and dry, with no sauce whatsoever. It was just a pile of soggy, flavorless chips topped with two overcooked eggs. How hard can it be to cook an egg? My boyfriend ordered the chorizo burrito, and it was the worst burrito I’ve ever tasted. The chorizo was mushy, greasy, and completely unseasoned, and the flour tortilla fell apart because of the excessive grease. It’s rare for us to leave food uneaten when we eat out, but the quality here was so poor that we effectively threw away over $30, as our meal went straight into the trash. Save your money and choose another place.

The staff is very nice and friendly. The asada tacos on Taco Tuesday are a fantastic deal, and their sauce is incredible.
