If you took one of those small Manhattan bodegas the way they were in like the 1990s, before the advent of nutrition, threw some high quality produce in there and top notch employees with hearts a gold, and expanded it beyond 12x12, it would be Vans. Pretty standard stock with a few interesting tidbits, a very neighborhood market that's priced competitively.
Yes I drive to the farthest grocery store to shop for vegetables and fruit because they have the freshest and best tasting. And Amish butter.
Stores clean and neat but employees never speak or acknowledge you as a customer in any way. Cashier says hello and your total is how are you paying and that's it.
Locally owned grocery store. The meat, in-store bakery, service deli, and produce are top notch! I love that there are workers who have been there for decades, who know you too and even remember my grandparents, who passed away in 1994. They must treat employees well to keep them so long. Ordered a prime rib roast from their meat department (which regularly stocks Montana sourced meats) for Christmas 2020. They cut the ribs and tied it at no charge, and the price per pound was significantly less than $10. It was delicious and tender and perfect.
