The garden could really do with a serious clean up bits of rubbish stuck in the tables and fag ends around that need clearing. The tables could do with a lick of varnish. However, new manager takes over soon and maybe things will be different. Good luck to Danny and thanks to John, who will still be around, I'm sure.
I was staying at the hospital and a nurse had recommended the Sunday roast. I wasn’t disappointed. I had roast beef with all the trimmings and it was lovely. The beef was lovely and tender, to much for me but I’m not a big meat eater. Veggies were lovely and fresh and roast potatoes nice and crispy. Staff were very attentive and friendly. I will return next time I’m in the area.
I had a Sunday lunch here on remembrance Sunday and it was so nice to see the pub supporting the local community hosting local uniformed services. The pub is a nice traditional English pub, with a great atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The downside was the food, I was expecting a nice traditional roast dinner, however the dish came out swimming in gravy to the point that you couldn't see the meat. The gravy was watery, had very little flavour. I had the lamb, which tasted nice, but was extremely thinly sliced and resembled more like the meat you expect from a microwave meal. The vegetables had been cooked to within an inch of their lives. However the potatoes were good. I would certainly recommend the deserts though!!!
This is a real English pub! With more than 300 years of history it has many stories to tell. Highway men drank at this pub. WWI wounded Aussies, from the local hospital, drank at this pub. Royalty visited this pub. It has real history! Close your eyes for a few seconds and you are transported back in time a hundred years. Low ceilings. Cosy sitting areas. Well stocked bar. GREAT FOOD. GREAT SERVICE.... Sunday lunch was excellent! Real pub food! Roast lamb and veg was as good as it gets. Good value for money. THE PEOPLE.... But what makes this pub stand out is the people. Wonderful serving staff. Bar manager was attentive, calm, talking effortlessly to every guest. Every one there was a local. Elderly people in their 80’s having a traditional Sunday roast was a pleasure to see. Listening to the locals was a pleasure. Endless stories. Lots of laughter. These are the real English people you won’t find in any fancy London pub. This is a pub where you are welcome. You feel at home. Children welcome! Just when you think it can’t get any better an “Arthur Daly” lookalike turned up and took over the conversation!!! THE KINGS ARMS IS A GREAT ENGLISH PUB! Worth the visit!
Excellent Sunday roast and very attentive staff also dog friendly.
