SSS BBQ Barn - Tamworth - HILLVUE

If you are looking for a good steak in Tamworth don’t go here. The steak was near inedible (yearling scotch fillet), halloumi bites were average at best but made even worse with the tartare sauce served with them. The only thing that we enjoyed was the waffle with ice cream which anyone can make at home. To top it off the atmosphere was zero on a Saturday night. It’s a no from me.

Decided to go there for dinner, turned the corner and thought s..t. BUT KEEP GOING!!! It was a fantastic meal, good size serving, staff were friendly, prices were pretty good and even enjoyed the pop corn.

On my way down south to pick up a friend when I needed a feed, fast. Missed the turn off to the Macca's near by and saw their sign. Hvnt had BBQ for sometime so I decided to give them a go. The place is a little tucked away and the sign itself wasn't very eye catchy. But damn they were packed and fully booked. I happen to took their last table available. Felt a little out of place as I'm the only Asian person, and also the only solo customer in the shop, in between a table with an old couple and another table of a family of 10. Ordered their Rib and Rump on Mushroom Sause with a LLB. and DAMN the ribs were amazing. Melt-off-the-bones tender, like Smokey meat jelly with hints of honey and caramelized onion. And spots of vinegar cutting through the thickness of the flavors here and there. Most intriguing is the faint smell of reduced sweet soy sauce! I'm 99% sure they didn't use soy sauce as it's quite an over powering flavor, but it's a very pleasant scent, at least for me. Wonder what they did there. Other than that, the side of chips were great, tasted great by themselves or with the mushroom sauce, but the Ribs were the star. The Rump was good enough to justify the price, but if I am after a fine steak I'd go somewhere else. The Ribs is where it's at. Would have given it a 5 /5 if it wasn't for the service. They are really busy, and there seems to be quite a number of new staffs, who wasn't competent enough to take orders properly, forcing the more experienced staffs to pick up their slack- I waited for a good 5 minutes before a staff noticed me and took my order, only to have another manager looking old lady to retake my order as the first staff wrote it wrong. Hopefully this issue will be resolved with time. Experience may vary as all staffs were observably less hesitant to approach obviously non Asian looking customers for small chats, Cant help that I'm a legal alien in Regional Australia Ribs were so good I decided to get a pulled pork burger takeaway for the rest of my drive down Syd. Good burger, great flavor but a little cold and bread a bit soggy despite I ordered it with less sauce, must have been a great burger for dine in. TLDR: Book ahead if you can Order their Ribs it's a clean plate club that's worth a detour

We loved this place so much that during our two night stay in Tamworth we decided to go there for dinner both nights. Great service, good atmosphere absolutely delicious food. Would highly recommend the ribs the Aussie fillet steak with bacon. AMAZING!
