The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful with information about how to make the best use of your time in Hobart/Tasmania. The artwork in the hostel is very quirky. The rooms are clean and tidy and there was some work to update while i was there. There did not seem many bathrooms for the number of people at the hostel, so be aware at peak times! I would stay there again.
This hostel was hard to rate. It had a great vibe, cool little bar and lounge area at the front serving local beers, awesome super friendly staff and even the clientel were friendly but if cleanliness is your thing stay away. Maybe its the usual laid back Tassie style and they don't mind so much - but it has to be one of the least clean hostels i've ever stayed in. I almost insulted the backpacker they paid to clean the kitchen when she started talking about it being "the best clean she'd done" in that kitchen cause she was "so drunk" the night before. Luckily i'd just managed to shut my mouth in time. Everything just has a layer of grime over it. Crumbs in all the food shelves. The laundry - i felt like i would need to wash my clothes just from walking through it. And they expect you to put a $20 deposit down to use an iron. I took one look at the ironing board and was not putting my clothes on that. I also had a pillow that was literally 5cm thick - thats not a pillow, thats a large piece of cardboard. They had none spare as they were booked out so i found a blanket in a cupboard and rolled that into a pillow. If you're that low on pillows, just go down to Target and get 3 for $15. The showers are an Aussie corregated iron style cubical which is cool with good water pressure. Could do with some mirrors in the bedrooms so girls dont clog the one tiny hand basin in the bathroom to get ready. And maybe put a runner down on the floor or ask people to tread lightly when they are coming home at 2am so they don't wake everyone else. So yeah, not all bad but it just needs a good scrub.
A good place to stay in Hobart with a range of rooms, a clean kitchen with lots of areas to lounge around in. Good free wifi, decent coffee and beer and facilities to lock up your luggage if you arrive too early or have checked out. Cheap eats nearby.
I stayed here for two nights in Hobart either side of a tour. Great location easy to get to and from the airport, very clean, really comfortable and easy to mix with others. The fireplace is an awesome feature to make you feel at home, and the kitchen is a good size. The only downside is one sink in the girls bathroom....not ideal! I would definitely recommend it, especially for solo travelers.
Bathrooms were okay, kitchen was okay (after the cleaner had been in) just needed a bit of a revamp! Decent location and helpful staff though! If you like them on Facebook you also get a free drink at the bar, worth it!
