A few times a year, we have friends visit and walk the Tennyson Trail before stopping at this charming café, which is bigger than most cafés you find on the island. We always enjoy a cup of tea, cake, or lunch as it's the perfect midway point during our walk. On this occasion, we arrived to find the café closed, which was not a problem as we had missed the signs outside. However, when we asked to use the restroom, we were told it was only for hotel guests and directed to use the public facilities nearby. Despite having elderly members in our group, we were denied access to the restroom, which was a disappointment and seemed unkind. It was a missed opportunity for the staff member to show some compassion.
This charming cafe is located within the hotel and offers a great variety of food with exceptional service. It's the perfect spot to have a meal after a stroll along the coast.
Called in here for a quick coffee on our way back to the ferry. Super coffee, very friendly staff and amazing views. The roast dinners looked very appetising will return for one on our next visit to the Island.
Overall the visit was very disappointing. The homemade Hummus was totally bland and had the taste and texture of unseasoned lukewarm mashed potato. The toasted teacake arrived on a hot slab of slate with the result that the pat of butter was reduced to a pool of oil. It was not cheap and the room lacked any sort of atmosphere and we could have been eating in a work's canteen except the food would have been superior. The one and only redeeming feature was the view from the window but even that was not worth the visit.
