Írjon visszajelzéstI can’t count the number of times I have been to King of Curries — often on a Friday night when my partner and I are tired after a week’s work, and just sitting down and having the meals brought to us seems the best thing in the world.Gourmets will argue about the standard of the food, whether this dish is authentically Indian or that has the right spices, too hot, too mild…this is not fine dining and the lamb vindaloo is as good as any I have tasted. Things have changed, however. Changed from the night a friend and I relaxed on easy chairs in front of the window one Friday some years ago, putting the world to rights from the vegetarian platter to the mango lassi and a great deal in between. The television on the wall played a Bollywood movie (sound turned down), all swirling colour amid ancient fortifications under a huge Indian moon.Or there was the night when I watched two Indian Premier League cricket teams battle to a thrilling finale with a group of sub-continent friends-for-the night, debating the relative merits of the Rajasthan Royals and the Kolkata Night Riders. We stayed so long, and ate and drank so much that the dessert was on the house. Those were the days…sadly the comfy chairs and low table by the window are gone, replaced by two sets of the standard tables for two. The television always seems to be off; even the cliental has changed, mostly young men or couples hurrying in for takeaways and departing as quickly, bearing their meals out into cars and away. The food is still good, the choice quite reasonable, the waiting staff as friendly as ever, but it just isn’t the same. Perhaps it’s just me; perhaps I should remember the words of the song: ‘Those were the days, my friend, we thought they’d never end…’
Very disappointed. Ordered first time a few weeks ago and loved the food. But today, firstly, they delivered an incorrect order, then took 40mins to rectify that and bring the correct order (I'd ordered home delivery, which I paid $2 for, btw). Turns out wasn't worth waiting 1 hour 40 mins for my good anyway. Poor quality naan (which was the most delicious thing last time) and average malai kofta. Quite disappointed.
We are always looking for any good delivery and take-way restaurant servicing broader Belconnen and decided to try KoC instead of TajAgra because KoC was slight more competitive on prices. But we found that they replace spice with SALT. TOO MUCH SALT. This is our 2nd (or more, we keep trying) attempt at enjoying KoC. So disappointed and lesson learnt. How many pints (~1/2 litres) of water and unslept nights to rehydrate! I needed 4 pints! That is not healthy food, rather it is hypertension and disease. We have learned out lesson and would rather pay the few $$ extra for TajAgra deliveries; and avoid poor SALTY (cheap) taste KoC.
Visited on a quiet mid-week night and received a very friendly greeting. The menu is varied, plenty to choose from - we enjoyed the pakora, beef shahi korma and bhuna lamb. All were good sized serves and very tasty. There was also plenty of rice. But the best was the cheese naan - hot, soft and a great size, it was very very good.Prices are pretty good - shared entree, our mains and bread, plus a couple of soft drinks for less than $50 was good value for the size. Parking is easiest around the corner in Jolly St.
The only positive aspect was that the food arrived in just 40 minutes instead of the estimated 90-minute wait. However, the curry was bland, the meat was dry and overcooked, the naan was tasteless, and overall it was a disappointing waste of $48.
