The restaurant does not pay its staff fairly or correctly, often paying overtime in cash to avoid the additional half-dollar per hour. There are also issues with hygiene, as bugs come through unfiltered ventilation and land on dishes and food preparation areas, which are not cleaned before food is served. The food itself is dreadfully overpriced and poorly flavored. For instance, the gravy tastes overwhelmingly greasy, as if made with an excessive amount of butter or margarine—one cook seems to believe that a medium pot requires a whole pound for the gravy. Unless you want to support dishonest practices or risk food poisoning, I suggest going to Mikey's or another bar for genuinely decent and tasty food that is worth the price.

I ordered the steak and prawns with fries and soup. The fries were freshly made, and the seafood chowder was decent—I'd rate it a 3 out of 5. The steak was a robust 10-ounce portion, seasoned perfectly, and the accompanying vegetables were fresh and flavorful. My daughter had a half order of spaghetti, which made her very happy, and she has enough left for at least another meal, if not more. My wife opted for the lasagna, which was massive—at least four portions! She enjoyed the flavor immensely. The atmosphere was calm, and our server was friendly. The lighting was just right, and the seating was comfortable with nice benches. If you find yourself in this area, I highly recommend stopping in to enjoy a meal at this well-managed restaurant and lounge.

We stopped here on our way back from Drumheller. My mother grew up in Carbon, so we took the grandchildren on a tour of the town. The service was friendly, the food was delicious, and the portions were generous. It was an excellent value. The kids want to return and even tried some new foods that they loved.
