L'Authentique - Le Lion-d'Angers

An absolutely delicious meal.Compares favourably to Michelin starred restaurants. There is a choice of 2 menus each offering excellent value. We would highly recommend the food and were made very welcome by the owner's wife. We will definitely be going back as soon as we can/

Having walked and driven past several times during our recent holiday we met a German tourist in a nearby town who recommended this restaurant to us.We booked a table and are so glad that we did.This is a superb restaurant serving very traditional French food.Not a pizza in sight, who was so refreshing!We were a group of 4 and all chose the slightly more expensive set meal.The streaks were amazing!Yes it's more expensive than other restaurants, but the quality of the food and the unobtrusive service is worth paying for.You really need to understand French to decipher the menu and avoid getting something that you may not find enjoyable, for instance one if the mains is eel.All in all a great evening

We ate for six consecutive nights in l'authentique, each meal was a tribute to the chef's skill and his real feeling for his ingredients. highlights? the freshwater prawns, the superbly cooked american steak, and best of all, perfectly cooked and presented duck. the food was light, flavourful, and beautifully presented. we put the wine choice in the chef's hands, and drank exceeding well. It's worth the trip to Lion just to dine at this restaurant, but be warned, it is small, book ahead.

We took a family group of 11 to L'Authentique for dinner. It was the best meal we had on our vacation. The presentation was outstanding and each dish was perfectly prepared. The restaurant owner was very attentive. Highly recommend the salad with shaved truffles and the lamb. We will be coming back!

What a wonderful place in a location you would not expect it. Redecorated last year the room is charming and above all the owners are darlings. They will do what ever it takes to make your stay a memorable experience. For the food and as a French gourmet I can tell you that the quality is way above the prices of the menu. Keep some room for the desert they are at a quality level you can't imagine.
