The Kawartha ice cream is also amazing. Many of these recent reviews regarding slow service are somewhat misleading in my opinion. Good food takes time and I have on average waiting aprox. 20 minutes on a 'slower' day at birdie's and have become accustomed to waiting for their food. It is not a fast food food truck and they focus solely on the amazing food by cutting out the wait service step but that doesn't mean the food should be immediate. I have been warned when the wait was an hour (though it was always faster) which I appreciate but was recently warned it would be half of an hour and said 'cool it's fast today' considering how busy it was though it seems as though others were displeased by this wait. In short, the food is amazing and the 'wait' is worth it.
We were a group of 10 and they served us wonderfully fresh Perch in a timely and friendly manner! We sat out in the sunshine and enjoyed our lunch!
Three piece perch with fries and coleslaw is perfect for $13.00 on an outside table! Right on your way to Pt Pelee National Park or just a destination for a lovely car ride.
I usually consider myself a fish and chips hater because I did not like to chew the deep fried layer of the fish, or I should say that I used to hate all deep fried food for health and taste reasons. However, when I accidentally pulled over for the ice cream after visiting Point Peele National Park, I noticed that there were full of people waiting beside this red truck. Out of curiosity, I gave it a try even though it meant a 45-min wait. It was a long wait and I hate waiting. But it is the long weekend. Why not slow down and enjoy the rural life for an hour, especially the restaurant mentioned that they have the fresh catch of the day. When the fish arrived, I was very curious about the birdie sauce and the lightly fried fish. The first bite made me realize that it was the best fish and chips that I have ever had in North America. Yes, I hated fish and chips but I still gave it a try regardless whether I was in BC or Nova Scotia. All I regretted was that I only ordered five pieces for two people.Recommendation: (1) order 3-5 pieces for each person in your party; (2) try their special sauce for both the fish and chips; (3) enjoy the tower ice crease at the truck next door after the meal. (4) wait regardless whether it will be a 45 or 60 minutes wait
Food is subjective so just because I like it doesn't mean you will and vice versa. This is TripAdvisor fish and chip review number 20 something. The fish and chips here excellent the tartar sauce excellent it has spicy taste to it coleslaw was very good. The service that's a different story. Picture this we get to the window we were told 30 minute wait 5 people in the bus cooking food 50 minutes later I got my three piece with with fries and I actually counted there were 14 people waiting. The service here is ridiculously slow the government works faster than these people.Free parkingNo free WiFiToilets are porta potties which are cleanCash only operation ATM on site.
