The food and service was fantastic. I was already in her restaurant in middleburg before (loved it) and finally came to try the lansdowne. we started with the ratatouille pizza and one of my companions had the French wobble soup. I loved them both. I had the steak fries and it was fabulous. my companions had the laughs and the ducks and both shaved.
They are always consistent with the food, drink and ambiente. a popular place to go with or without children.
We used to love this place when it was in Middleburg a few years ago. Unfortunately, in my opinion it has gone in the wrong direction. The bigger place almost empty on a Saturday night, by the way is no where near as warm and inviting. The food was also not nearly as good. Some specifics: a steak frittes with no onglet hangar steak?!? Now the steak frittes uses a sirloin?!? Why? And to tenderize it, there's a strong marinade soy sauce, vinegar? which hides any beef taste. The fries weren't very good. The bread? No self respecting restaurant in France would dare put that supermarket bake at home fluff on their tables. The bouillabaisse had two small obviously previously frozen shrimp, two overcooked and rubbery scallops; the two small clams and two mussels were fine, as was the white fish. The broth was ok, it did have a garlic and fennel taste, but wasn't knock you out good. I really wanted to (still) like this place after having a number of excellent meals and experiences over the years it was in Middleburg, but I just did not. Won't be returning.
Had a lovely dinner at French Hound! Started with warm French bread perfect for dipping with our escargot appetizer. Yum! Then had mussels and salmon for our entrees. Food and service were all excellent. Highly recommend.
