Írjon visszajelzéstI had my eye on a restaurant in Long Beach that served beef Wellington, but sadly, it was closed for renovations and rebranding. Instead, we decided to visit The Auld Dubliner, an Irish pub that featured beef Wellington on its menu. However, upon arriving, I discovered that the beef Wellington was only available on weekends, despite what Yelp had listed. Since I wasn't very hungry, I opted for a pub burger with a side of vegetables, while my friend chose the Shepherd's Pie. I've heard wonderful things about the Shepherd's Pie, particularly how juicy and delicious the lamb was. I also enjoyed my pub burger, which was cooked to a perfect medium as I had requested. The vegetables on the side were well-seasoned as well. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience!
Right from the start, I sensed trouble when we arrived at a tiny pub located outside a large mall near the Long Beach Aquarium. Finding parking was nearly impossible. Maybe it’s better during the week, but on weekends, all the mall parking entrances were blocked, and street parking was unavailable. Luckily, we spotted someone leaving, otherwise we would have faced quite a long walk from the nearest parking garage, which would have made the experience even worse. Inside, the place resembled a typical Irish pub. While we were there, a large group of musicians arrived, sat at a table, and began to play classic Irish folk songs. It was a magical moment, though I couldn't tell if they were professionals warming up or just friends jamming together for fun. Regardless, the music was the only positive aspect of our visit. The service was unusual as there was no table service; you had to order at the bar, and someone would bring your food to your table with a number placard. Unfortunately, the tables and condiment holders were dirty. The metal condiment holder was so grimy it seemed almost stuck to the table, and the tables were sticky all over. My partner ordered the fish and chips, which had a lackluster flavor and soon led to a near bout of food poisoning—definitely not ideal when you're 45 minutes from home. As for the Guinness stew, it was unimpressive to say the least. I couldn’t shake the comparison to Campbell's soup due to its bland, lifeless taste. To top it off, for $24, you get just three tiny chunks of beef, three carrot slices, and three potato slices, all swimming in sauce that barely resembled a stew. When I mentioned this to the bartender, he informed me that was all you got for the price. He was kind enough to refund my money, which I appreciated, given that it barely qualified as a meal. I suppose I should be grateful it wasn’t enough food to make me sick; I got off lucky in that respect. Even the half-and-half drinks were a disappointment. The first pour wasn’t allowed to settle, resulting in a Harp topped with a massive head of Guinness. For the second, the drinks were mixed together before serving, and that’s not how you do a half-and-half. Oddly, the beer flavor and the smell of the glasses were off-putting—perhaps the glasses weren't washed properly, or the taps were dirty. In any case, I can now cross this place off my list and continue my search. I do not recommend it and will not be returning.
The food was spot-on and very tasty. The service was exceptional and timely. The vibes reminded me of a traditional pub in Ireland. I loved my Beef Wellington!
Okay this is about my 4th time to this place in 6-7 months and they fail to disappoint. Grabbing a quick bite before catching the Dune flick we popped in at Happy Hour and it was about 1/3 full! I ordered the veggie sandwich and was delighted that the ciabatta bread was soft so it held all the veggies in! Opted for the tater tot side and they were crispy! This bar/restaurant operates like a pro and the kitchen has served up great food!
We love the Dubliner and have visited over 100 times while living in Long Beach. The bar is located on Pine Avenue close to the Long Beach marina. They offer the proper Guinness pour and have won awards for doing so. The menu is also fabulous although it has changed over the years. The entire bar was imported from Ireland where it was dismantled there, shipped to the US and reassembled. Sometimes there is authentic live Irish music performed and on those days the bar is packed. We 've never eaten a bad meal there and have many happy memories, especially during the Irish New Year 's celebration with drink specials and a super fun and lively atmosphere. We moved away from the area and cannot find another Irish pub that comes even close to the Dubliner! Looking forward to my next visit there in June for a proper pour !!
