However, Mothership sets itself apart with its unique atmosphere. The interior is stylish yet cozy, featuring a food counter, a few tables, and a bar. In contrast, the outdoor space is spacious, equipped with large picnic tables. Summer is best enjoyed outside, savoring a cold drink alongside several pounds of meat. Someone once said that.
If you've been to John Brown's Smokehouse, you likely have an idea of what to expect from the food—it's delicious, and the selection changes daily. However, the real distinction of Mothership lies in its ambiance. The interior is stylish, though not particularly spacious, featuring a food counter, a few tables, and a bar. In contrast, the outdoor area is quite expansive, equipped with large picnic tables. There's no better way to enjoy summer than outside, sipping a cold drink and indulging in several pounds of meat. At least, that's what someone mentioned.
Sister has successfully revived John Brown's. The food is absolutely delicious and prepared in a similar style, but the flavors are distinctly different. It's like comparing salt and pepper to brown sugar. The ribs and brisket are fantastic, and the mac and cheese is a bit creamier and richer than what you’d find at JB's. I would definitely return for everything. Just a heads-up: the costs can add up quickly when ordering by the pound.
There's nothing to like in this place. I got the ribs and brisket (saturated for the fat slices) and both were very good. Ribbons were extremely delicate and had a big smoke taste. Brisket looked a little dry, but it was definitely not. Both sauces (powder and mustard base) were legit. All, including the person cutting and serving meat, cashier, bartender and busboy were really friendly. Outdoor terrace is quite large, and one of the employees mentioned that they add corn hole, some other games, and finally live music. In any case it is worth checking!
Great new BBQ spot in the LIC area. All the meats are pay by the pound. Pork belly was my favorite. Also had the brisket, ham, prime rib and sausage. The sausage is the only thing I wouldn’t get again. It was a bit on the drier side, not enough fat or something. Don’t forget to also try the plum sauce!
