I would just say the crust on the fried fish seems a little thick, not as fluffy, and fries aren't as to die for. But the fish is cooked perfectly for the baked dishes, and the crab is amazing.
The one star is obligatory but also for the awesome and welcoming waitress who greeted and served us. Without her, and if I could, this place would get zero stars. We ordered the halibut plate and the rockfish plate, respectively. Both were cooked to a crisp; extremely dry, battered too heavily, and hard. I suspect we both got the same fish because it tasted the same off both plates: like grease. And the prices were bananas! I mean, it's small town Alaska so you have to expect that ... but $21 for a plate of overdone and awful fish and chips is just highway robbery. Keep the waitress, fire the cook. Have some pride in your business, people.
Went to Terry 's for our first meal in Seward. Atmosphere: very casual, big screen televisions with baseball. Our table wasn 't sticky, but the restaurant looked like it should be sticky. Service: quite over eager. The host welcomed us in and told us to sit anywhere we 'd like. Since the restaurant was empty, my gal friend and I opted for a seat by the window. The only tables by the window were for 6. Again, since the restaurant was empty, we figured it 'd be okay, but said greeter promptly asked us to move tables. Sit anywhere you 'd like ....? Huh? Overall service was great, almost too great. I needed to death grip my glass in order for them not to ask if I wanted more water/beer. Can I breathe first? Thanks for the attentiveness, but let a girl enjoy her meal. Food: Halibut and chips were great, but overpriced, as everything in Seward is. Be prepared to pay $20ish per person. Probably won 't find much better than that. Cole slaw was sloppy and soggy. Clam chowder? My cup runneth over; just wish it tasted a little better for being $4.25 per tiny cup. Thin and lukewarm. Bathroom: had to use paper towels, because toilet paper dispenser was empty. I couldn 't find any in the secret restaurant bathroom cabinets that you 're not supposed to look in, but you look in anyways. Unpleasant bathroom experience. All in all, this review sounds a bit scathing, but we really did enjoy our time at Terry 's. You 're on vacation! (Most likely). Why not splurge a bit on some quality fish and chips and a casual atmosphere. Terry might give you his life story too; worth it 's weight in gold. Cheers.
Out of all the overpriced restaurants with crappy food in Seward, this one is probably the worst offender. $18 for Nachos??? I don't care how big the portion is, that's out of control. The place isn't particularly clean, the food isn't that good, and it's way overpriced. If you want to pay the same amount for way better food, go across the street to Chinooks. If you want to pay a lot less for slightly better food, go next door to the Railway. But either way, this is one place that I'd tell anyone in their right mind to skip.
We came here because the BBQ place down the street was closed. I was looking forward to fish tacos, but it was basically fish and chips in taco form. It also came with nachos, which were clearly stale. I should have looked this place up on Yelp first before coming here. The tacos were also overpriced. Do not come here.
