Írjon visszajelzéstWhen we arrived at the simple building off Highway 18, there wasn’t a single car in the parking lot, and it was still early. The partially paved lot was dusty and windy; it definitely had that high desert vibe. There was a lovely mural on the west wall, but overall, the building didn't scream excellence. Just a few neon beer signs in the dining room window hinted at cold drinks, which turned out to be true. Inside, we found an empty counter and scattered tables, which made me think of the 1950s TV show “Highway Patrol” starring Broderick Crawford—that could have been a film set! But no, that was shot in Lone Pine. The owner, Letty, was at the back of the dining room, surrounded by a photo of her latest grandchild, a stack of crossword puzzles, and quite likely the latest news from Lucerne Valley. The restaurant was spotless, and Letty greeted us with a menu, a drink offer, and a warm smile. I already knew I liked this place, and I was really hungry. We decided to order the Chile Verde burrito and taco combo. The menu was extensive, with enticing breakfast options as well. I saw the recommended combo but casually overlooked that all dinners come with rice and beans. I asked Letty how spicy the Chile Verde was, and she explained it depends on the jalapeños she uses, but that she makes it herself. It was rarely very hot, and she kindly brought me a small cup to taste, which was incredible—just the right amount of spices and utterly delicious. I ordered the food combo, while my smarter half, Terri, spotted the same burrito on the senior menu as “1/2 Chile Verde Burrito for $5.95.” We placed our order and enjoyed some ice-cold Coors Light with homemade chips and salsa—so tasty! Another senior couple sat behind us in the adjacent booth and looked over the menu. Letty approached them, and the gentleman ordered the special on the board above the counter, which was “Two Enchiladas of your choice with garnish for $5.95.” However, Letty pointed out that, since he was a senior, he could get the same dish for $5.25, saving him 70 cents. Then Letty came back with our food. Terri saw her half burrito and exclaimed, "Oh my God!" When Letty set my plate down, both I and the couple behind us echoed the same sentiment—it was enormous. I couldn’t believe how big it was; I snapped a photo of the doggy bag to show the leftover portions, despite being ravenous. The meal had a spectacular aroma and looked amazing. In my eagerness, I forgot to take a picture until after I had devoured half of my tacos. The flavors were spectacular—definitely five stars. I ordered a second beer, also ice-cold, and couldn’t help but indulge. I started fast but had to slow down or I’d hurt myself trying to finish. Ultimately, I had to give up. Letty brought a doggy box before I even asked and mentioned that everyone compliments her service, but no one leaves hungry. She also told us about her fried chicken and, feeling full, we already made plans for the next trip. Oh, I almost forgot to mention—the gentleman behind me actually offered to help me out when he got his two enchiladas from the senior menu for $5.25. Overall, the meal was still a fantastic value.
