Smokey Jose's - Mackinac Island

The staff at Smoky Jose on Mackinac Island were fantastic last weekend! Conveniently located right in front of the Star-Line Ferry Service, my family was eager to grab a bite as soon as we stepped off the boat, but my two boys were starving. We had to wait 15 minutes for an outdoor table since we had our dog, Cosmo, with us. While we waited, the very friendly manager (or head waitress?) surprised us by bringing out delicious chicken fingers and waffles for my kids to enjoy. It was such an unexpected and delightful gesture! The service and food were excellent. This place is definitely a hidden gem on the island!

The food was amazing, with options for everyone, including the kids. The prices were reasonable and in line with what you would expect—not overpriced just because of the tourist traffic. I would swim back to the island just to eat here again! The staff was friendly, and the location was perfect. Jack Armstrong, who I believe is the owner, was wonderful. It had a warm, local family atmosphere. I would definitely return in a heartbeat!

Smokey Jose’s has become our favorite restaurant on the island! Whether you're looking to sip cocktails on the back terrace with a view of the water or enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner, this is the spot for you. You must try the smoked pineapple Margarita—it's absolutely amazing! The BBQ is also incredible; the house-smoked brisket was outstanding, especially with the selection of house-made BBQ sauces. Our server was fantastic, and we even had the chance to meet the owner, who is a warm and welcoming guy with a genuine passion for his business and for Mackinac Island. We can't wait to return!

Our waitress Kricket was absolutely amazing as the first thing on this hot day get some dishes ice water for our fur babies!! The food was excellent, highly recommend the Brisket sandwich or the garbage can Nachos!!!

Great experience! Perfect location! Right next to Star Line Ferry, so we were able to eat and enjoy ourselves while waiting for the next ferry to arrive to take us back to Mackinac! Our server Cricket was awesome! She was super friendly and very professional! Also, a gentleman who seated us I think the owner? was so kind and made us feel right at home! Food was great! Prices were very fair! The atmosphere was incredible! We had a margarita and tequila shot while we were there and the salt that they put on the rim was very unique! Delish!! I ordered the nachos and the presentation was sooooo cool!! My husband had barbecue and really enjoyed it! They had a variety of barbecues sauces that were explained by our server! Like I said before, really good experience and if we ever return to the island we will DEFINITELY be going back!
