Really cute spot with good food and vibes! I got the khao moo dang, which was really good. The sauce was a bit sweet, which I was not expecting, but that was on me for not reading up on it before ordering.
One of the best Thai restaurants in Madison. Everything my family and I ordered was very good. Chicken pot stickers, papaya salad (som tum), yellow curry, kana moo krob, and pad kaprao moo with kai dao (fried egg). Very friendly service and a varied menu. I will definitely eat at Thai Basil again. Get there early because it fills up fast.
We stopped here last night for my wife 's birthday. She 's Taiwanese. While the space is clean and uncluttered, and the wicker-like shades on accent lighting were a nice touch, the harsh recessed ceiling lighting was too bright and gave the restaurant a cafeteria vibe. I had the Spicy Eggplant (with pork), which was quite tasty, except the eggplant tasted like it was deep fried in used cooking oil. My wife had the green curry (with chicken). The eggplant in that dish was under cooked, and she remarked that the curry sauce was overly sweet--probably Americanized, as were the spicy heat levels of the dishes. Both dishes were presented well and arrived at our table very attractively. The rice was some of the best I 've ever had in a restaurant. The staff were very friendly and efficient. My overall impression is fast food Thai, which is reflected in the amount of carry-out business that they do. Given the location and clientele, the restaurant 's modus operandi is appropriate, and many people will like this place. Right now, I 'm at 3.5 stars, but better lighting and eggplant prep, and less catering to American palates could easily elevate my rating to 4+. Overall, probably better as a lunch spot.
Awesome Thai spot, and a mainstay for me. Food is excellent, prices are low, portions are big, service is great, atmosphere is nice.
