The flying saucers were past their expiration date, and on a hot 98-degree day, they didn’t seem to have proper cooling. As a result, all the ice cream was melted, and there were a lot of flies hovering around. The surface cleanliness was questionable as well.
When I called back to let them know (just as a courtesy), the owner answered and was angry, informing me that the cake had already been made. I explained why we no longer wanted it—because we had been misinformed about the price—but he engaged in an argument, insisting I was wrong. He claimed it must have been one of his employees who gave me the quote, which somewhat made sense, but he shouted over me, making it impossible to explain my side. He then said he didn't need my business and hung up on me. I tried calling back to clarify that it was his employee who misquoted the price, but he refused to answer. This is a troubling way to run a business, especially a franchise like Carvel. There are plenty of other great places to get ice cream in town where customers are treated with respect.
I requested extra frosting gel on the cake for the kids, but they refused to accommodate my request, which was disappointing. The Belford location happily agreed without hesitation and earned a five-star rating from me. Customer service is crucial, especially during these challenging times!
