The wonderful soup was perfect for the cold weather. The highlight of my meal was the service. The staff was attentive and the food came out at the perfect time.
We were up in Marlton area yesterday and decided to get Joe?s Peking Duck House?s amazingly delicious wonton soup to take home with us. We have been dining-in and taking out food from here for over 30 years. We no longer live in Marlton, however when ever we are in the area, we always order takeout. When dining-in we always get the duck with the plum sauce, steam bread and bok choy.
Had a craving for soup dumplings (siu long bao). The skin was too thick and barely any soup. Would not recommend for soup dumplings. We ordered soup dumplings, wonton soup with roast pork/roast duck, and beef chow fun. The wonton soup arrived first within 5 minutes, the chow fun next, and then the soup dumplings way later. The timing of the food was awkward. The wonton soup was served with the end of the duck near the tail, which I have never seen before served with wonton soup at other restaurants (basically a undesired cut of the duck, one piece was mostly fat). The char siu was tough and lacking taste. The wonton noodles were hard. Maybe I was just unlucky and it was a bad day at the restaurant, but as a first generation Cantonese person I was disappointed and the quality was not what I am accustomed to at other traditional Chinese restaurants. The soup and noodle were too salty. I would not recommend the wonton soup or char siu, better to head into Chinatown for those. The roast duck itself, although not the expected cut of meat you'd find in wonton soup was good. The chow fun noodles were delicious and would order again. May return and give this place another try.
Update: Have them another try dining in. This time much better. Still only cash ?. But food was delicious. Decided to give Joes a try after reading a bunch of reviews. They only offer take out right now, and cash only (lost a star for that). The juicy dumplings were really good. Very flavorful. Also the beef on a stick and wonton soup was fresh and tasty. I had the beef in hot pepper sauce and it is one of the best I have had. Spicy but not to the point you can't taste the beef or veggies. Over all very good, yeah I would go back...wish they would take credit cards, or discount the prices a bit since they are only taking cash and not getting any cc fees charged to them....
My sister came across this place while she was picking up some duck donut next door. She told me how good the Peking duck was and I must try. I drove all the way from Philly to try this place out. I could not believe I?m just discovering this place after all these years. This place is a amazing. The food is authentic and taste better than most of the restaurants in Philly Chinatown. I?m a foodie and I would travel for food. I would not mind paying $5 toll just to come here for the food. The Peking duck is a must try and you would not be disappointed. The wonton soup was so tasty. We did the set dinner for 4. We also got the soup dumplings which I wasn?t too crazy about. The flavor was good but the skin of the soup dumplings were a bit too thick. The staff were all very attentive and friendly. We will definitely be back soon to try other dishes.
