You can still watch movies on the big screen while you eat and drink with your friends, whether sitting in the balcony (now more like a living room or on the main floor where some of the original theater seats still stand beside the new brew tanks. There are a few dog-friendly outdoor tables as well. The beers are mostly English style, with occasional variations like West Coast IPA on the rotating taps. The food is basic pub fare (fish and chips, nachos, etc. so don't count on a gourmet meal, but at least you can eat something. It's not the food that brings you here, but the good beers and the funky and charming environment.
A really unique spot in Mars Hill that shows movies in a vintage theatre. They have a great drink selection, which includes a lot of local ciders. I'm really hoping this place will be in full swing now that summer is around the corner. Their trivia night was fun.
So what a crazy place...really could be something special, just needs to be tweaked a little. A really old neat vintage theater. With the seats tuned into restaurant chairs. and Two beer stations. A huge screen but nothing was playing, should have been playing old Blockbusters...Beer was good , but limited list. I had a Coconut Porter, it was good. My husband had a Red Bitter but did not like it too much. If I had the knowledge and knowhow, I could turn this place into a Blockbuster. I loved the whole idea of it !
Ok, this is possibly one of the coolest places we have visited in our 6 years in AVL. Hickory Nut Gorge Brewery opened this old movie theater (get the tour! and its awesome. I think the owners/managers must be English, because all the beers are english style and the food is as well. So beer wise, I only had the english style IPA. Im more of a west coast guy (yes, I am an IPA snob but this wqs very, very drinkable (had 3 . The food was the 2nd best surprise. Shepards Pie in a foil serving and wife loved it. Mine was the fish and chips. The fish had a heavier breading that what we have had in the UK, but the chips (fries we perfect with the vinegar.THE BEST part was the venue itself. Just a super cool place. I highly, highly recommend this place. Ask Jamie (super nice to give youbthe tour of the old projector and the kids crying room. We will be heading back soon!
Went here after a hike, beer was very delicious and perfect on a hot day. The view out back is incredible, you're sitting right on the river and you can look up and see Chimney Rock. Amazing bbq pulled pork sandwich, pork was perfectly cooked and juicy. We got the Carolina bbq sauce and it was delicious, perfectly tangy/little sweet and smokey, and it just a hint of spice. Get the fries. Super crispy, soft on the inside, big portion, and they seasoned them with black pepper and salt. We will definitely be returning!
