Beautiful atmosphere, good eating and the best drinks

I would call the restaurant more of a great bar scene than restaurant. we had diner and that was decent. the menu is limited in the selection, large beverage menu. the restaurant plays music very loud and it is difficult to conduct a conversation. overall not sure if I would return.

Eating is great, the atmosphere is great and I never had bad service. the outside area feels private and another one is in alignment.

We have been to the Refuge numerous times. I had to leave a review after our bad experience last night though. First gripe was with the speed the food came out. We felt rushed from the time we sat down and to me that is unacceptable for a restaurant. A pet peeve of mine. They had a wedding starting the time we arrived so idk if that was why but i can't stand to be rushed through dinner. We ordered calamari as an appetizer and it came out in literally two minutes. How is that even possible? We did not place our dinner orders until after the appetizer came out to try and slow it down for them. Nope. Dinners came out about 3 minutes after our appetizer plates were cleared. The complementary bread which is always so good actually came out at the same time as our meals. But the worst part for me and the reason I decided to write this review was that I was charged an extra $3 because I wanted corn tortillas rather than flour tortillas for my shrimp tacos. What? That is a first for me. It's not like I was substituting filet mignon for chicken on a salad. In my opinion that was a very petty charge and something that I won't forget. The waitress did not mention an upcharge when I asked for the substitution which I feel she should have.
