Chrysalis Vineyards At The Ag District

What a delightful find this winery is! The weather was perfect, creating a relaxing atmosphere. The smoked salmon dip was outstanding, and the salami and pepper panini was both fresh and delicious, complemented by homemade potato chips that had a fantastic flavor. The Margherita pizza was light and airy, and the basil pesto was perfectly seasoned. We chose a lovely rosé to pair with our meal. Overall, it was a wonderful experience!

Additionally, it seemed that there was only one corkscrew available for opening wine bottles, and the bar manager did not seem to be in a hurry to open and serve the bottle I ordered. We enjoyed the pizza, but after about 20 minutes of waiting, we received a Caprese salad that was missing mozzarella (which is essential for a Caprese). Attached is a photo of the salad after I sent it back for them to add the missing cheese. Preparing a cold dish shouldn’t take that long. As a supporter of Virginia wineries, I do want to return to Chrysalis, but they really need to invest in staff training and find a more efficient way to use the POS terminals to ensure a consistently positive experience for guests.

Some people have commented negatively about the staff here, but my wife and I found them to be quite pleasant. The outdoor area is nice as well, offering some lovely views from the hill. However, I can only give this place 2 stars because the wine was simply not good. The food is decent—cheese and crackers are just okay, but the other dishes are better. It's a shame the wine didn't meet expectations. Additionally, the long, bumpy dirt road leading up to the winery can be a bit of a hassle to navigate with a car. There are so many wineries in this area that you have many options to choose from. While we won't be returning, I don’t want to discourage others from giving it a shot; my review is based solely on my opinions about the wine.

Love the vineyard and am a regular here, but this time I found sediment in a 2019 Papillon wine. I thought it was unusual given that one cannot consume it, but the manager insisted it was normal. Disappointed a bit. Good location nonetheless.
