La Cucina - Midlothian

We've eaten a few times in La Cucina. It's already awhile since we were in a restaurant, so we're excited that they're still open! In 2019 we had the opportunity to go to Italy and if you are looking for authentic Italian food you need to eat in La Cucina! You also have a wide selection of wines to choose. Service is great and you will usually fulfill one of the owners to ensure that everything has met your expectations! We're coming back!

We ordered lasagna and manicotti. Portion sizes were great. Food was hot great temperature. Enough for another meal. However it requires additional seasoning effort to give me the flavor you would want. My wife had a manicotti and I had the lasagna. When I asked my wife will she ever order again ? Her response was no way!! I have to agree with her.

I read a review of the carbonara, and had my mouth set on that dish when I walked in today (Saturday lunchtime . As I browsed the menu, I didn?t see it listed. Referring back to the review, I realized it was offered as a special. When the server (incredibly friendly and helpful ALSO 5 stars came and asked what I wanted to order, I explained what had brought me in. She offered to ask the chef if he could accommodate my request, since they weren?t too busy. To my delight, he made it for me, and it was DELICIOUS. Full disclosure, when I make carbonara at home, I don?t follow the recipe for the classic dish for one, I use bacon. The true dish calls for guanciale, which has a different flavor (though not unlike bacon . It is a ? deeper saltiness, a subtler taste than crisped bacon (I love that too! . All that to say, bravo! For taking the time to make the dish for me when it wasn?t on special or on the menu, for offering to ask, for wonderful service? ALL WONDERFUL. A little sad that I live an hour and a half away, but I WILL BE BACk.

I really wanted to give 5 stars because I love their pizza a lot. Every time they never miss. But this time I changed up and got their special, the carbonara. Very disappointed in what I received. Complete scrambled eggs, bland, bacon that?s still rubbery and majority gristle. I was really shocked. I would give another shot with hesitation.

This place right here is a hidden gem! We found this gem by accident while looking for a place to eat after a long day of shopping with the family. And good Lord, we lived in Europe for almost ten years and La Cucina is one of the best Italian places we've had since coming back stateside! Food, service, management all first class! I'd definitely be going back!
