I eat here once a month with an alumni group in the side dining room which easily accommodates our 10 or so attendees. Customers order at the counter and then pick up the order at the counter when your name is called. Daily lunch specials are posted. Spencers has stepped outside the barbecue world by offering a new prime rib sandwich with aus jus. There was a lot of bread with not enough meat for the price (over $11 which includes one side and a drink). I will stick with the barbecue which is always good. You can sauce it at the table with medium or hot. Drink stations offer sweet/unsweetened tea and sodas. The staff is friendly and helpful with information about the menu. Oh, and you can register for a free meal birthday/anniversary club.
I had the bbq chicken with green beans and corn and it was great. The price here is high, I paid $13 for two pieces of chicken and two sides. The ordering was not conductive to a large group as each person had to order first at the counter and then wait for the food to come up. By the time the last person got their food the first half were finished eating. I loved the apple fritters. I can't speak for the ribs but they looked good.
I've eaten here for a few years. Always good BBQ and lots of food. It's the best but prices keep me from eating there as much as I like. Wish they had some smaller plates around $10. I would eat there 3 times a week
Spencer's is a pretty good barbecue place. The prices did make me question it at first, but the portions are immense. I ordered a three-meat plate including brisket, hot links, and chicken. I received two large chicken breasts, two hot links, and a three slices of brisket (along with two sides). The smoky flavor was pretty strong in the meats, and the sides (onion rings and coleslaw) were also very good. The mild and hot barbecue sauces were on par with similar restaurants in the area. The apple fritters also add a great touch, and bring together the sort of down home feel of the restaurant. The food is great, but not overly impressive. The portions, complimentary fritters, and service do make it a recommended spot if you like barbecue.
