Visited for lunch through the recommendation of a friend. We walked in as a customer was bizarrely swinging a tennis racket around and went to jokingly hit us with it. Slightly bemused we said hi to the girl behind the bar who ignored us. The place was very tired and dirty with odd objects dotted around which didn’t seem to fit in with the old charm of the pub. The menu looked uninspiring and due to the lack of any friendly atmosphere we left and went to the Queens Head a mere few meters away, which was lovely.
Quiet Tuesday lunch time. Traditional pub interior, family run tenant business from Fullers. London Pride was therefore very good. Also on hand pump was ESB, Lacons Encore and two beers from Dark Star (owned by Fuller's) namely Hophead and American Pale Ale. Menu with several options and at very reasonable prices. Chicken and chorizo pie, mash, peas and onion gravy for £8 is not half bad, hot and tasty too. Staff were friendly and pub is well worth a visit.
We met with some friends who suggested The Cricketers for a drink. The pub is cozy, welcoming, and offers a great variety of beers and other beverages.
We found a 'Golliwogg ' on a shelf in this pub. After we took the disrespectful symbol down from the shelf, a member of the bar staff asked us to leave saying her close friend made this for her . The fact this member of staff tried to defend this item of controversy is appalling and ignorant.
