There aren't many good sushi spots in the area and I feel like they are so close to being a better than average sushi spot. Firstly, we were seated quickly. But seated next to the bar where they were washing the floor. With an industrial cleaning agent that smelled like ammonia. Needless to say it did not improve our appetite. We moved tables on our own cuz the smell was giving us a headache. Perhaps wait til your customers are not in the vicinity to do commercial cleaning? Or at least sit us somewhere else The food is what you can expect from a local sushi spot. They aren't winning culinary awards here. But the key is the freshness of the ingredients. And for that reason, Mikomi is one of the best spots around. Slight complaint about some of the prices but I guess we're seeing that everywhere. I just remember being able to get a nice sushi meal for $25-$30 a head. Nowadays expect $45-60. We also had a slight issue with our server. We came for a specific roll and that happened to be the one that was missing from our order. However the server did admit to it and apologized. Overall, a decent spot in the area for sushi. If they were able to tighten up their operations, I'd be coming back a lot more often
Ordered a good amount of food it was good!! I am usually not the biggest fan of albacore, however the albacore was so soft and it practically melts in your mouth. The ultimate salmon roll was delicious as well, but def needed some citrus! I've never had anything like the 8 wishes roll, but the blue crab had a slight sweetness and paired well with the tuna on the inside. As always I have to get the salmon egg sushi, which was delicious as well. I would come back to try some of the other items on the menu. Our server was nice, and I did appreciate that there was both indoor and outdoor seating. Weather was nice enough to be outside, so we chose to sit out! Overall a good place to go, although on a weekend parking is tough since it is in the city.
Ease of getting a table at 7pm on a Thursday night was great. Service was pretty good. Interior is clean and spacious. Sushi quality was better than I expected! Even for the basic Philly and yellowtail roll.
Just imo, sushi was kind of mediocre. very aesthetically pleasing, but the best thing I ate here were the Takoyaki balls. Not bad in general but for the price expected a little better quality. sushi tasted warm lowkey, which is not how it should be lol. staff was nice, so not complaining about them. there are probably better spots out there!
First time at Mikomi. A popular place along the main street of Old Town Monrovia. Efficiently put my name on the waitlist at the front entrance and was called within 10 mins. Service was quick and attentive which is why we weren't surprised the wait wasn't so long even thought the restaurant was packed. Spider roll was fresh. Chicken katsu was a generous portion with the perfect crunch. Opted for curry on the side and glad I did. Had spice and a nice assortment of potato and carrots. Wish the amount of rice was proportional to the entree. Tonkotsu ramen noodles were al dente but the broth could have had more depth. Still a good dish overall.
