Whenever I dine at a Chinese restaurant anywhere else in the country, including NYC and SF, I always find myself comparing it to Great Wall. The Mongolian Beef is delicious, perfectly spiced, and made with high quality beef. The Green Bean Chicken is a comforting dish that is served steaming hot straight from the kitchen on cold or rainy evenings in Monterey. The restaurant offers reasonably priced beer and wine, a spacious dining room, friendly and efficient staff, clean restrooms, and great prices. Great Wall is a true gem in the community, perfect for special occasions, dining with out of town visitors, or just a relaxing Friday night after a long week at work. Their delivery and pick-up service is efficient, and dining in feels like a cozy local spot. I would give Great Wall five stars without hesitation.
The staff was extremely friendly, providing me with a separate vegetarian menu when I requested one. They answered my questions and assured me that the chow fun dish did not contain any egg. It was delicious!
Great Wall is AMAZING. Despite their not being a designated menu for vegan items (yet), the vegetarian menu is easily adapted to be vegan. Emily (the owner) goes above and beyond to let her customers know what ingredients are in each dish and which ones can be made vegan. The food is outstanding. All the ingredients are fresh and seasoned perfectly. Our go to's are the veggie fried rice with no egg, salt and pepper tofu with jalapenos, mushroom and veggie tempura (no egg batter), and the sizzling rice soup (no chicken broth). They are expanding to include mock meats such as a shrimp tempura made with yam (amazing). The service is outstanding, they really care about their customers and take good care to cater to your needs. We can't stay away for more than a week!
Had great vegan Chinese food here. The owner was very explicit about how they're happy to alter dishes as long as the restaurant isn't super busy. She is vegetarian.
It was a delight to enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine at a restaurant that goes the extra mile to clearly label dishes and offer an extensive vegan menu. We indulged in pot stickers, garlic broccoli with tofu, Mandarin tofu, szechuan green beans, and chow fun noodles. Each dish was expertly prepared and seasoned to perfection. This dining experience was a definite victory for us.
