The best pancakes in town! Big dining area great for lots of friends. Street-side dining in the sunshine. Friendly professional staff. Coffees are a little small but taste great, nice and hot!
Our first stop on our Mudgee Adventure was this little gem. Smack bang right in the middle of Market St, this cute and comfortable little local is popular for pumping out some tasty French inspired dishes. Not French himself, owner and chef Aaron was inspired by the passion the French have for food and wine and tries to emulate this in his own special way through his dishes. A stickler for local, fresh and seasonal produce, his food is ever changing to showcase the best of the Mudgee region.
Simply Fresh. This is a find in the country, a cafe that doesn't try to be tricky or smart, just a place where you will find seasonal local produce cooked beautifully. I had a poached chicken salad with local lettuce home grown tomatoes and a beautiful olive oil and red wine dressing with a buttered slice of the cafe made sour dough, a dense chewy soft crusted loaf. My friend had a steak sandwich with a thick piece if medium rare steak on sour dough with homemade tomato chutney. A muffin made with caramelized oranges was delicious with a well made coffee.
Food was really tasty! Especially the ricotta pancakes, which had such a nice balance of flavours with the maple syrup, the vanilla mascarpone and the berry sauce. The corn fritters were a bit dry, but they complemented well with the tomato relish and the creaminess from the poached egg. Other than the food, everything else was just okay. Service was okay, and the hot chocolate and cappuccino were not that great. The food is also a bit overpriced considering the small portion (we, particularly, expected bigger pancakes! . But it’s still a nice cafe to try, and we were happy to be able to sit outside with our dog.
