La Diablada Bar & Grill

As part of our tour (as travel agency Nordic Travel must have some interest here), we have made a stop in this restaurant. Milanesa de llama was as hard as a shoe sole, the Lomo had a very strange pepper sauce (too much corn starch) and...worst humita we had tried in 10 days! Not even the Pommes were fried enough.

It's not on the main train, so away from the markets that all seem to sell the same stuff. I had a quinoa empanada and a mixed salad. Service was pleasant and efficient. So a good choice for lunch.

Purmamarca is a basis for the tour of the safari of the clouds. Larger centres attract more and more restaurants. That was good. Had trout with lemon [in reality, a wedge on the side]. Service was similar, so nothing too fast. It's a good option when you go through.

Cosy and clean place in idyllic Purmamarca. We stopped here while on a tour around Purmamarca and Salinas Grandes, and the place was warmly recommended by the tour company. La Diablada have a good selection of wines and beer, and a pretty extensive menu. Empanadas...were really good. Llama meat was a bit hard to eat, but still had a nice flavour. Very simple dish with rice. A bit overpriced compared to similar restaurants in Salta. We went because of promised internet, which was pretty much not working. So wish we had tried some of the other restaurants around town.

We ate dinner at La Diablada last night and I walked away disappointed. I probably should have known since we were the first ones in the place at 8:30, and then by the time we left around 10:00, only 2 other tables had joined us...(on a Tuesday night). The menu is fairly ordinary with all the normal grilled meats, pasta, beef, chicken, llama, and trout. It seemed like the basically have the same sauces/recipes for many of their dishes. Everything is also ala carte, so nothing came with your meat dish — you had to order rice, potatoes or vegetables and pay extra for it. Between the 3 of us, we had a llama steak in a sauce and a couple orders of breaded chicken. I felt the meal was overpriced when you had to add in the cost of the extra item for your plate. One positive was live music by someone playing a “soft” guitar and singing — he was good.
