Smokin' George's BBQ - Nanaimo

Needed some lunch and we were in the area so we stopped in a Smokin'George's. The reviews were favourable so we gave it a go. This restaurant is in the light industrial area of Nanaimo certainly not on the main drag. The place was very busy at 1:30pm which was a surprise. You order at the cash register and then find a seat. Food is brought to you. I went for the pulled pork sandwich and fries. Very tasty but filling so I will forgo the fries next time. The BBQ sauce is vinegar based so it was very tangy and the pork was smokey and tender. My husband opted for the chicken and found it to be on the dry side though very tasty. You can order beer or wine or just water which you can help yourself. I am not an expert on smoke meats but I found it was well done. Funky atmosphere and great staff what more can you ask for. By the way prepare to get messy.

Went for lunch - after the rush hour. One of us had the pulled pork and I had the brisket sandwich. Heaps of meat - my brisket was the best I've ever had. Soooo tender and lots of flavour. Had a bite before I added sauce and it was really tasty. My friend had the pulled pork. She's been here before and has her favourites. Never had a meal before where no one spoke! Service is polite, friendly and personable without being a pest. It's on top of my must visits when I'm in Nanaimo.

We were greeted and felt right at home. The pulled pork is amazing. The portions were perfect. The service was great. Highly recommended.

A hidden gem of a place next door to a dive shop!The food is very good with daily specials advertised on the chalk board above the counter.Only one BBQ sauce and hot sauce on the table but that was enough.The BBQ sauce and coleslaw are a bit on the vinegary side.The brisket and ribs tasted really good and smokey with plenary of meat.

PULLED PORK POUTINE...need I say more. Consistent great service, funny owner who goes out of his way to greet and thank everyone who walks into his establishment, and great BBQ at reasonable prices. I prefer to go when the owner is there as he makes the trip there even better. A+++++
