The Riverview - New Forest

The restaurant is beautiful. We enjoyed dining outside when the weather was nice, it was absolutely wonderful. The interior was also beautiful for when we sat inside. The food was excellent and the service was great. The restaurant is located in a very nice hotel.

Certainly nothing on the menu compared to the photo above. Usual pub grub, fish chips, burghers, ceasar salad, steaks.

The staff were very friendly but the service incredibly slow. Food is decent pub level but overpriced. Whilst a stunning view the restaurant itself is very basic and yet again it felt like a place catching up after COVID with diners paying over the odds....The beef and reef sharing platter had sides for 1 person definitely not enough for two and a tiny lobster. Felt like a complete rip off. Disappointing visit all round

We arrived for dinner around 8pm, and were surprised when our starters arrived before our drinks. We had only ordered bottles of coke and tap water, so it was particularly frustrating that it took approximately 40 minutes for our drinks to arrive. In the end, I had to go to the bar myself to get them. During our meal, we noticed that the couple next to us received their mains before their wine or any drinks at all. Although the manager attempted to apologize, it felt insincere as he rambled through the apology without making eye contact. At both dinner and breakfast, the staff started moving tables and chairs around while guests were still eating, which made us feel uncomfortable. Overall, this experience was disappointing and I hope it was just a one-time occurrence. Despite the delicious food, I am hesitant to return or recommend this restaurant based solely on the poor service I experienced, which left me regretting my choice of restaurant.

Four friends of mine were staying in the Hotel for three nights and they kindly invited me to join them for dinner. The restaurant is bleak and cold with bare floorboards and a complete lack of soft furnishings. I chose Sautéed Wild Mushrooms to start,...which were nice, although the plate was cold. Others had Soused Mackerel and Spiced Hummus. To follow I had Brixham Brill supposedly with Celeriac Purée, Seaweed and Dauphinoise Potatoes. It came with samphire, which is a lovely marsh vegetable but it is definitely not seaweed! Others had Pan-seared Duck Breast, Pan-fried Chicken Breast and Pan-fried Scallops with King Prawns. Again the plates were cold. My friends hoped the menu wouldn’t be the same all three evenings. Service was friendly but amateur.
