Takahachi - New York

It was my first visit to NYC, and we chose this restaurant to satisfy a sushi craving. We arrived just after they opened at 5 PM. The atmosphere was inviting, the host was friendly, the service was attentive, and the sushi was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend it—10/10! By the way, the miso soup was fantastic and just $3!

Great, affordable place for sushi in the East Village. The staff is always very kind and friendly and it's a very no frills, straight to the point place. Would recommend!

Not great. This is average quality fish. Didn't get sick but left a lot on the plate because some of it just wasn't tasty.

I've previously sung the praises of this restaurant, and I'm writing again to specifically highlight the tempura. I want to emphasize the wonderfully light batter—it’s just perfect. I do have a heads-up, though, which isn’t a negative point. The tempura is offered a la carte, and I assumed each order was for one piece, but it turns out it's actually two. So, I ended up with double what I expected, which is the kind of problem you love to have! While I often dine here because it’s located right above a jazz club I frequent, I appreciate this restaurant for more than just its location.

As a fan of seaweed salad, I had high hopes, but this one was a disappointment. It consisted of four different types of seaweed that you had to dress yourself, and it just didn't work for me. I haven't felt that let down since John Frusciante left the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2007. However, the sushi platter for two completely redeemed my experience at Takahachi. Priced at $59, the portion size was generous, and the fish was incredibly fresh. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fish. The only disappointment on the platter was the shrimp nigiri; honestly, I don't understand how anyone enjoys shrimp nigiri. In my opinion, it simply doesn't measure up to the quality of the other nigiri on the plate. Nevertheless, I'll definitely be back. This has become my new go-to sushi spot in the East Village.
