Best diner on upper east side. Great food, service, atmosphere. I wished they delivered below 59th street.

First, to be clear it's a diner not a restaurantWe find the food pretty good -- but the service kind of spotty and the bathrooms kind of bad.

Not that goodThe service is great and some food is good but look at the attached tuna melt! Burnt toast and the cheese isnt even meltedHorrible.

Green Kitchen 1st Avenue at 77th Street is a original since 1931. I have already been to the new location and enjoyed it so much I've wanted to try this location and stopped here a few times. This day I hit it at the perfect time. There's plenty of comfortable seating inside. The place is clean and they have two unisex bathrooms. One bathroom is very small and one handicapped accessible. After I used the restroom I was told I could sit anywhere. I went out to the side porch where there's plenty of light from overhead and the windows. There's cute little booths that seat two people. I settled in to one. I knew exactly what I wanted from reviewing the menu ahead of time. I had to try the pancakes because since 1931 they make the pancake batter fresh daily. So they say anyway! My waiter was prompt and professional. He was a good listener because my order came to me exactly the way I requested. He was timely with checking on me right as I was ready for the check. As for the pancakes, they hit the spot. I asked for the short stack which turned out to be two huge pancakes. I smothered them in butter because I don't eat sweet stuff with my pancakes. They were just the right fluffy texture. Before I realized it I wolfed them down. I'd definitely recommend the pancakes. The short stack was $9.80. I also recommend this location for good old fashioned diner food and service.

This is a cute diner tucked away on a corner of a street with ample seating inside. The staff were very friendly and attentive with service. The portions for what you pay are pretty big, it was hard to finish all of the pancakes and omelette for just two people. The pancakes were amazingly fluffy and soft and the omelette had a good amount of actual jalapeno slices in it which I loved. Will definitely be coming back here!
