The Last American Burger Company

The food was delicious and nicely presented, but the seating area looked a bit worn. It was perfect for our group of friends on a weekend getaway, but may not be ideal for a couple looking for a more intimate setting.

I was really pleased with my visit to this restaurant on half price Tuesday. Despite expecting something basic, I was surprised by how disappointing my burger turned out to be. A friend and I decided to try this place as a change of scenery from the City Centre, and to take advantage of the half price Tuesday deal. It was great that many bars in Jesmond were also offering a Happy Hour on drinks. The staff were okay, but the minimal interaction and dark, run-down appearance of the place made me wonder if they were as unhappy as they looked. The food seemed promising at first, but when I opened my burger to add more sauce, I discovered a small button mushroom instead of the promised Portobello mushroom. The curly skin on chips I paid extra for were even worse than my friend's regular fries, which seemed impossible. They were just plain, uninspiring chips that were slightly bigger than fries, and definitely not worth the additional cost. Despite these disappointments, my friend's burger was decently sized and my small burger was tasty, especially with the homemade Blood Mary Ketchup. I would consider returning, but only on Tuesdays until I can be sure that the chef can distinguish between big and small mushrooms.
