Crab Shack On The James - Newport News

The restaurant was made of a lot of items, including crabs. How could a place called Crab The house is made of crab. Service is sucked. We never saw our waitress. Food was good for seafood and for the price. For more dressing for Cole Slav from waiter and host lasted 10 minutes to get it. View was absolutely beautiful.

Amanda was a great server, the food was delicious (crab legs and tuna sandwich), the banana margarita was awesome, and got the carrot cake to go! Love the views at the Crab Shack on the James... just wish I could have ordered the clams casino, which they don't have on the menu anymore, but everything else was good.

The wait to be seated was way too long bc I had a reservation. BUT Good food with a beautiful view of the sunset on the patio. We had a large party and the main complaint was all the baked potatoes were cold. They replaced them all. The waitress handled it well, BUT she really should've had more help with a party of 10. It was still a good experience overall bc it was my birthday dinner

I've been going here for awhile and have had party experiences, but this time was not good at all. My reservation was at 7pm. We were not seated until 8:10. I was understanding of them being short staffed, but we didn't have food or drink menus until 20 minutes later. Once we all ordered, we thought it might be okay until the food came, and we were notified at that moment that one item was not available (that half the table ordered, some ordered that alone). Our waitress would drop things off and leave. No one was asked if they would like something else, leaving some people at the table with no main course. Considering it was taking the food awhile to come it, no one wanted to wait even longer. I asked for the manager who explained that a reservation for a party does not guarantee that a section will be prepared for you prior. I told her maybe she should inform people of that considering they called the day of to confirm we were still coming. Just not a good time. The food was okay, minus one that we had to send back.

Wanted to try something different , went around 3pm on a Friday, with my daughter and uncle, definitely recommend , crab shack has something for all age groups! Definitely recommend the hush puppies and enjoyed the crabcake sandwich with slaw! Anna was our waitress, she's very attentive and nice!
