Not only is it expensive they can't count to 8 and don't care.
We had a two-person meal for $23, but it wasn't great. The chicken tenders were tough, and the fries were cold and mushy. The taco box was only slightly warm. The biscuit was hot, which was nice, and the drive-thru staff member was incredibly friendly! I really appreciated his positive attitude!
I usually don’t write negative reviews for restaurants because every establishment can have an off day, especially in these times. However, I feel compelled to make an exception this time. My wife and I visited Kentucky Fried Chicken in Newton for lunch today. She ordered a taco, which she said was good, while I opted for a two-piece chicken dinner with two original Recipe legs. What I received were two very small legs—one felt like I was eating a baby chicken. It was not the original recipe I had ordered; instead, it was overcooked and greasy, and both legs were tough and chewy. I remember the two-piece meal used to come with coleslaw, but apparently, that’s no longer included. The mashed potatoes and gravy were quite good, and you can’t really mess up water, so that was fine too. This is the fourth time I’ve had a disappointing experience at this KFC, and it will likely be my last; there are better options for fried chicken nearby. It’s unfortunate because this KFC used to consistently serve excellent food. What I was given after a long wait should never have left the kitchen. The staff at the counter apologized for being short-staffed, but this seems to be an ongoing issue. Indoor dining had just reopened, so we were glad about that, but it ultimately turned into a letdown. I hope they can improve; otherwise, they may not be around much longer.
If you're traveling on I-80 and considering a stop at KFC in Newton, Iowa, I recommend you think twice. I ordered the two-piece original recipe meal with an extra biscuit, as KFC is known for its tasty biscuits. Unfortunately, the biscuits I received were stale, likely warmed up from the day before. The chicken also appeared to have been cooked several hours earlier. I paid $1.29 for my extra biscuit, but for that price, I could make an entire batch of delicious biscuits at home. I drove 20 miles from Grinnell to Newton for this KFC meal, and as someone who recently moved to the area, I can assure you I won’t be making a second trip for it. Overall, it was a complete and utter disappointment.
