The band good ..bar staff helpful and friendly .but hopefully last night was just a off night...I mean some of the punters.. standing in front of me and a few mates... when they could have moved to one side and still seen band .. people just pushing past no excuse or anything..I let someone past they looked at me ..no thanks ., manners cost nothing..maybe just a off night .but it spoiled night .we got a earlier metro.

Dirty, tired, miserable bar staff, nothing like the number of beers it advertised. It used to be a great pub with a fantastic restaurant but no longer. Also had a wide selection of music but now seems to offer only punk and rock. I had a terrible experience and will almost certainly not return. There are plenty of better places to drink in the area

Came here with friends one night in April and found the staff very helpful and friendly. There was a band on which were brilliant a great place to be entertained. Real ales were spot on. Service was excellent. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for an all round good night out.

Attended a gig and was really disappointed with how run down the place is. It smells of stale beer, BO and toilet freshener. Serious problem with a smell from the toilets. Don't where the live music fans were, but they were not here and missed out on great band, a live music pub without supporters has a limited lifespan. The bar apparently thinks it has been the home of live music for over thirty years, it was a run down social club until about 27 years ago, and has not been in good shape for the past 10 years. Sad really, cos the Maggie was a great pub with a reputation for quality music, food and beer. Those days seem to be long gone. To top it off the night ended with what appeared to be a fight between regulars and the staff, with the police being called to deal with it. Don't think we will back for a while.

Well what can I say, this used to be one of the best places in North Shields, good food and half decent staff. I find the 2 female staff very questionable in here now, they certainly don 't suit the music vibe and aren 't at all friendly we had a terrible experience with them last time we came in and would never revisit. The place has also had a decorating job done but looks awful, as one reviewer remarked it 's the absolute definition of the word 'bleak ', no atmosphere or acoustics. Rhymes with rap!
