Although I had never encountered issues eating here before, this experience left me feeling uncertain about the safety of their food. It’s troubling that the staff doesn't seem to grasp the implications of gluten sensitivity or the serious risks associated with cross-contamination. Additionally, I felt judged for my coeliac condition. For these reasons, I will not be returning.
During the handover of my order, an employee and another customer started discussing what gluten-free means. The employee mentioned that they didn’t understand what GF was. When she asked how gluten affects me, I explained that it makes me sick. Her response was, “I didn’t want to be insensitive, but is that all?” They then continued to discuss their perception of gluten as merely a healthy option, and one of them even pointed out that I was "skinny." While I had never experienced issues eating here before, this encounter left me feeling uncertain about their food safety, especially since the staff seem unaware of what gluten-free entails and the serious consequences of cross-contamination. I felt judged for having Coeliac disease, and as a result, I won’t be returning.
The restaurant offers gluten-free fish, chips, spam fritters, and mushy peas, all cooked in a separate fryer. They always package these items separately from the regular chips.
