Noodles were cooked to perfection and the pork was incredible. You get what you pay for the one bowl managed to fill us both up. Only thing I recommend to check for is spice level. If you think you are good with spice, think again because we got mild and it had a bit of kick to it even with that. Nonetheless I would order again any day!
Been dying to try Koichi for a while now, so we got up early and made sure to be there before they got busy (which didn't take long! I ordered the Black Garlic Ramen with some veggie gyozas to start and to say it was enjoyable is an understatement. The broth (I got pork medium?️ , the noodles, the veggies... I can't believe I hadn't come here sooner. Creamy but not too thick, flavorful, aromatic, juicy.. My friend and I are already talking about coming back, and we were there a week ago. If you haven't been to Koichi Ramen and you've lived in Ottawa for longer than 24 hours, what are you doing?!
I don’t even know how to preface this review. I’ll just cut straight to the point:Room-temperature broth, soggy noodles, fried-to-death pork that was practically bacon (not to be dramatic but I spat it back out), and a 45-minute wait. Both the broth and the toppings were bland. To note, the takoyaki was nice. There’s nothing left to say other than I won’t be coming back. It’s unfortunate because I love supporting local businesses but I think I’ll be taking my money to Sansotei instead.
I’ve been here twice before, and it’s really gone downhill. Service was slow our ramen took nearly 45min, and somehow a table seated after us got their food before we did. Ramen doesn’t take more than 10min to make and serve. The kitchen was clearly overwhelmed by the amount of Uber/Skip orders they had to fill. After finally getting our food, it was honestly just disappointing. The noodles were a bit overcooked, the broth was practically tepid, the individual toppings themselves were not very satisfying and the chashu was practically inedible from how old, overcooked, and rubbery it was. The broth flavour was okay, but there really wasn’t any substantial depth to the flavour either. There wasn’t any aspect of the food that was satisfying. In addition, they’ve raised their prices since I was last here during the winter (yes inflation is real, I’m aware) but for $16 17 for a bowl of ramen there is really no excuse for such poor quality/quality control. If I could get my money back somehow, I would. Not long ago this place was good enough to recommend to others, but something has clearly changed within 2023. Also, where did the clam broth option go? That was what initially drew me here. You’re probably better off at a chain like Sansotei. It sucks because I like to support local restaurants and business, but I just can’t support paying for bad food.
Came to Koichi with my brother, and the overall experience was decent at best. The appetizer (vegetable gyoza and korokke were good. The sauce for the Gyoza was delicious and the gyoza was cooked perfectly. The korokke was nice and hot. The ramen wasn't perfect. The noodles didn't feel freshly made (perhaps store-bought? , and the toppings were decent.Unfortunately, the experience was worsened by the service. The servers seemed overwhelmed and even gave us the wrong food. I recognized the dish was missing components (Didnt have corn, had tofu... . I am sure the service would have been significantly better if they weren't so busy. 2/5 for now.
