John's - Palm Desert

I have been to this restaurant in Palm Desert about ten times in the last year, great club sandwiches. You order your food from the counter, no big deal, no tipping required. They all work very hard and are very kind. Today as I was ordering, a roach crawled across the counter, a German roach, the ones that spread...... I told the person taking the orders and it was like no big deal. Not sure if she understood me but she got my point. I flcked the roach back towards paying customers just to give them a heads up. Management, you have a very nice restaurant. Don't let it go to hell and become unsanitary. Rats and roaches are a battle alll restaurants face but you must fight them. Don't get comfortable with this disgusting issue.

John's really does everything well, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Without the pretention. Never been disappointed.

If you're looking for reasonably priced, fresh, fast and unpretentious food in Palm Desert THIS is the place. Really good French fries, an excellent Greek salad with freshly grilled chicken breast, good hamburgers with very fresh lettuce and tomato too. Very friendly staff too. This is where the locals eat. Near the Holiday Inn Express and Best Western and across the street from the Embassy Suites all within EASY walking distance.

We ate here the first night. It was walking distance from hotel. They have a great selection of foods however food is very bland. I ordered pork chops and needed seasoning for everything. You do get free refills on drinks. No alcohol served here. I think the clientele are seniors who don't want food with much seasoning.

We attempt to support family businesses. We have eaten at John's for more than 10 years. However, I am sorry to say, the last 4 5 times we have been there have been big disappointments. Recently we have been going in for our usual favorites. However, all the portions were half of the normal size, not nearly as filling and poorly cooked.. Today, 12/5/20 we ordered take out and picked it up in the required time. We only live about 10 mins from John's food was not only cold, but French Fries were limp. The hamburger was missing the cheese and my fajita plate, the refried beans were cold and solidified and the rice was white rice. Who uses plain white rice for a fajita plate? On top of everything, the service was unwelcoming . We used to recommend John's to everyone. We won't be doing that anymore.
