I do think the portion sizes could be larger, and it was surprising that they don't offer French fries at a grill restaurant. The "creeper" sausage was quite spicy, paired with sweet toppings and jalapeños. As I mentioned, it's a solid place with friendly staff, so things could certainly be worse.
Great staff! Both the good and the bad dishes were delicious. The brisket was tender but had a few chewy fat bits—still tasty! The house-made chips took a bit longer to prepare, but they were definitely worth the wait. I would highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning!
I ordered the brisket, and honestly, I expected much better from a BBQ restaurant. Unfortunately, it was poorly prepared—bland and so dry that I could barely eat it. It was served shredded, which didn't help either. We were really disappointed. The coleslaw didn't impress us either. The only redeeming part of the meal was the beans, which were good. Just to note, we ordered the food to go from Papio Pit and didn't dine in the lounge.
We placed a large order for our family over the phone and it was ready in 20 minutes! Incredibly impressed with the fast turnaround. Always a huge plus. The best part about this place is not only is it close to my house, but it's DELICIOUS. Let me preface this with saying I'm not a bbq fan. I would never say yay let's go for bbq. I had to change my ways after this place! We got every meat they offer and every single one was perfection. If you have a hankering for bbq and you're in the Papillion area, you have to go here!
We had a pretty disappointing visit. This review is based on food, service, cleanliness, atmosphere, and value. The food was the most disappointing aspect. Almost everything seemed to be week-old leftovers. We ordered the pulled pork nachos, brisket, ribs, spicy sausage, mac n cheese, slaw, potato salad, and cornbread. The nachos were okay, but only about 7 chips were nachos, the rest were just off-brand bagged tortilla chips like you'd find in the grocery. The nachos were supposed to be pulled pork, but I only found a few small peices. The brisket came chopped, and I thought that was weird. Standard is sliced, with an option to chop. Chopped is the standard here, I guess. If I had known that, I would have ordered something else. The brisket wasn't good. It was extremely dry. The is the only BBQ joint where I left with brisket still on my plate. The ribs were a little dry, and lacking in the flavor department. The sausage was absolutely awful. It was dry, shriveled, hard, and aslo lacking flavor. If you told me it sat out for a week or two, I'd believe it. The mac n cheese also seemed old. Parts of the macaroni were crunchy. The cheese was on the verge of hardening, and also lacking flavor. The cornbread was okay, the slaw was weird, and I didn't touch the potato salad do to the mass disappointment. Service was not good. The bartender was serving the entire restaurant, and she just couldn't keep up. We ordered drinks, and nachos while we decided on the rest of the meal. About 10 minutes later, someone from the kitchen brought out the nachos, but still no drinks. We finished the appetizer without seeing the bartender. About 10 minutes later, she made her rounds. Took a while to get to us, because it seemed everyone was in need of her attention. She refilled the drinks of the table next to us, so I assumed she would notice we still didn't have our drinks. I assumed wrong. We ordered, and our food came out within 5 minutes. Not abnormal for a BBQ joint, but none of the food was warm. It was the same kitchen guy that brought the food, so we asked him for our drinks. He obliged. It was a good thing, because the food was hard to choke down without lots of liquid. The cleanliness was okay, no complaints there. The atmosphere was unique. It was Wednesday, and they have live music starting at 6pm. They started to play some blues right as we got our main course. First, there was a guitarist and bass, and a couple songs in, a harmonica guy jumped it. I feel bad saying this, but I feel it's important to share my full experience. The bass player was good, but they didn't harmonize well together. At times, it was like they were all 3 playing different songs at the same time. The guitarist would miss notes, play strange keys, and his timing was nonexistent. His singing matched that of late night karaoke at a dive bar. Needless to say, we were ready to get out of this place. The value was not good. They are charging the same prices as other restaurants, but are operating nowhere near that level. I can't say I'll give it a second chance.
