Durant's - Phoenix

Have not dined at Durant's for years so very happy to be invited by a friend. My steak was perfect. The spinach salad was so fresh. Desert was delicious. Great experience! Finally went here after 45 years. Went for a friend's birthday with his parents. There was 4 of us sitting in a booth. The table was too small for 4 diners. We were constantly shifting drinks or plates to make room. Next time I will suggest a larger table. The Prime rib was cooked perfectly and the garlic mashed potatoes were great. My friend had the ribeye that I tried, OMG it was flavorful. For dessert my friend wanted I think it was a mudslide or similar cheesecake but they didn't have. Not sure how Durant 's gets to be rated best of Phoenix so many years in a row. From entering the restaurant through the kitchen which creates a breeding ground for bacteria to the old school dreary, dated dining room....not a palatable and welcoming environment. Then the sticker shock of the menu. $15-18 for iceberg lettuce salads? $80 for 12 oz filet. This is mainstay Phoenix, not New York City. Waiter was ok. Food was under seasoned.When we said we couldn 't have any of the potato choices as an included side, we asked for a vegetable. We were charged extra. End of the meal we weren 't asked if we wanted coffee. Won 't return. So many better choices in the area.

Great service by our Waiter, Jeff and the food was outstanding. The bottle of wine we had with our dinner, the Jamieson Ranch Vineyards Double Lariat Cabernet 2016 vintage was an excellent choice to compliment our steak dinner.

Durant's is THE classic fine dining restaurant in Phoenix. It has charm, wild history, a great bar and really good steaks, prime rib and fish. In my humble opinion, it is one of the best restaurants in Arizona (possibly the western hemisphere.
