Michelangelo - PIETRASANTA

I have been going to the Bar Michelangelo since 1978. Before internet when someone had to die in order to get line. So messages of dinner dates, rendezvous, studio openings, apartment rentals, sculpting supplies for sale, were left on the message wall as with the Bar Igea. After a full days work in our studios covered in marble dust with raccoon eyes showing the silhouette of protective glasses or dried clay on our overalls, we would meet at either bar and decided on where to go for dinner. It is family owned and operated still. Fresh pasties were available to have with their Cappucinnos which were the best in the piazza. Huge, thick, creamy with sprinkled chocolate way before Starbucks came into being. A first stop before going to the studio, I would pick up an International Herald Tribune when news was credible news. A small piece of paper had the handwritten total of your beverages which you took into the cash desk and paid. It was the honor system then. When Olivetti came out with the cash register and the new tax rules this changed that friendly system, but not the friendliness and ongoing discussions of groups of artists speaking several languages in a cacophony of camaraderie. Cocktail hour was at 7 when we would leave the studios for the day. Generous drinks came with small bowls of peanuts, potatoe chips, or little homemade pizza pieces which were gratis. Many of the artist are still sitting there contemplating their work or a next piece. I do not believe that has changed. Have a great adventure,

Arrived at Pietrasanta phoned my taxi and no answer. In addition no email or phone signal. Lugged my luggage from railway station to this bar. Spoke to the manager who sat us down to relax with a drink. Within minutes had access to his WiFi system and had been given a written note with three taxis with numbers and names. Suddenly problems disappeared. Rewarded the bar with my patronage everyday for a week. Service exceptional Poke

There are plenty of cafes and restaurants on the square by the church, and this seems as good as any. Good service.
