Írjon visszajelzéstThis restaurant has become my favorite spot within 200 miles of Wheeling, WV. Every aspect, from the presentation to the last bite of my meal, was simply extraordinary. I highly recommend trying the plov and the pickles. The carrot salad was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere is clean and serene, making it a great place to dine. Our waiter was very patient and provided excellent recommendations. Plus, there's free parking available across the street. I can't wait to bring my family back!
16 Southern Avenue is home to a charming little Uzbek restaurant called Kavsar. As soon as you walk in, a cheerful host with a lovely Russian accent will greet you and ask where you’d like to sit. While the space is compact, it rarely feels crowded, and you’ll likely have your pick of seating. I often choose a quaint back room where a black tablecloth adorns a table set for six. The host engages you with friendly conversation, asking how you’re doing and what’s new in your life, helping you feel instantly at home, especially with traditional Uzbek music playing softly in the background. The decor is simple, with just a few pieces of artwork on the walls—nothing to distract you from what truly matters: the food. Oh, the food! The menu is packed with authentic Uzbek and Russian dishes; as you scan the entrées, you might find yourself overwhelmed by the array of unpronounceable names. But then you’ll catch keywords like “beef broth,” “potato pancakes,” “dumplings,” and “chopped onions,” and you’ll think, “That sounds good. And that too!” The host, who doubles as your waitress, will return with a sweet smile and ask if you’re ready to order. You won’t be, and after offering you a bit more time, you’ll eventually seek her recommendations because the options are just too enticing. On my first visit, I struggled to choose between sweet and savory. The host suggested I try a bit of both, so I did, and the mashed potato mushroom crepes and cherry crepes did not disappoint. However, on my most recent visit, I opted for the Eggplant Rolls and Manti filled with spinach and pumpkin. The host informed me that the dish would take up to twenty minutes to prepare, and I responded, “Take all the time you need,” knowing that quality takes time in the kitchen. The Eggplant Rolls were a revelation—thinly sliced eggplant, lightly battered, with a unique texture I’d never encountered before. They were light and fluffy, almost dissolving on my tongue, and stuffed with tomatoes and onions and garnished with dill. This appetizer was a wonderful blend of textures and flavors. When the plate of Manti arrived, I was awe-struck. It was beautifully presented with three dumplings filled with green spinach and three more filled with orange pumpkin, artfully arranged in a circle, accompanied by a small bowl of yogurt and garlic dipping sauce. The moment I bit into a green Manti, I was thrilled by the perfect balance of delicate dough and flavorful spinach. This dish was a dream—requiring minimal chewing yet delivering maximum flavor. The pumpkin Manti was just as delightful, evoking images of Fall in Pennsylvania. Uzbekistan's position along the ancient Silk Road made it a melting pot of cultures and cuisines, and Kavsar's menu reflects this rich history, showcasing influences from both Asia and the Mediterranean as well as its roots as a former Soviet Socialist republic. It’s hard to go wrong with anything on Kavsar’s menu, and it's equally impossible to have a bad experience here. Why? Because everything is right: an intimate atmosphere filled with authentic people cooking traditional dishes from their childhood. Dining at Kavsar feels more like returning home to your mother’s kitchen than eating out on Mount Washington. Next time you’re craving a genuine home-cooked meal with a twist, head to Mount Washington for a breathtaking view and discover this hidden gem. That’s the beauty of a place like this—sweet and simple, it resides in a restored house on a dimly lit residential street in a reinvented American city. I truly believe Pittsburgh is one of the East Coast’s best-kept secrets, and Kavsar may just be its most delightful hidden treasure. Keep your sense of adventure alive; don’t let boredom take hold. Pittsburgh won’t disappoint. — xoxo, A
I've dined here about 7 or 8 times now, and each visit has been wonderful. The food is consistently delicious and fresh. The bread is exceptional, and the stuffed tomatoes are truly legendary. The prices are remarkably reasonable considering the generous portions and high quality of the food, and the service is always friendly and attentive. It's great to see the dining room bustling, as this place truly deserves its success! We’ll definitely be returning again and again!
This is a little, out of the way place in Mt.Washington with an excellent menu filledwith traditional dishes from Uzbek and Russian foods. The cucumber salad (we ordered two and split between 5 adults) was spicy, crisp, and tangy. I ordered the traditional Plov, which had tender beef, carrots, and served over rice, another party had lagman, another of us had the manti......all delicious and filling. And, of course, anyone from the 'Burgh would be thrilled to see the pictures of Evgeni Malkin and family on the wall! This is a hidden treasure ofPittsburgh!
