I’ll start by saying our service was great. Waitress was kind and on the ball. The food was good. However, the price is absolutely insane. $17 for 3 shrimp tacos, which was only 6 total pieces of shrimp on tortillas the size of a coaster… is not it. No side or anything else comes with it. (I asked prior to order if it came with a side and figured they’d just be larger tacos for the price). Very steep and unreasonable. Feeling robbed.
Shady Grove is a vaguely confusing space, but keeps it open to a lot of people. The interior and staff very much gives late night dinner/bar spot, the clientele is a range from college kids to older Walnut Street customers, and the menu prices are pretty expensive for what you get. I was pretty happy with our food, our bruschetta was really good, my burger was actually really awesome, and the Caesar salad was huuuuge. However, service was semi-slow, everything was just a little sticky, the lighting was weirdly bright in some spots, and the music was kind of loud for an afternoon. Probably just not my vibe, would be great for a lot of people and probably is fun to drink at!
This was by far the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. The only positive was there’s a lot to do in that area. I would never recommend this place to anyone.
Shady Grove Shadyside brings me back to the summer I worked as an assistant for Franco Doc Harris Jr's council campaign. That summer I took advantage of their half of bottles of wine on Wednesdays. It turns out that they still do that. The salads are still served in a mixing bowl that's as big as my face. I'm just here for the $6 mimosa Sundays and the fries on the salad.
