Encanada - Ponte de Lima

Recommended by a local this was a poor experience. Starters came on a tray from which you selected your cling film wrapped choice. The ham and cheese was ok but the croquettes were dismal. We had a cod main which was served in a wine box. It was vast for a single person portion but the cod was poorly cooked and chewy. The beef entrecôte was good but again huge portions which we could not finish. Overall not great and better options available in the town.

Great people, great food, great location, unable to manage a reservation list. Advice: If you don’t know how to do it or miss the resources, don’t accept reservations.

Sunday lunchtime, early January. Queues outside this restaurant. Obviously popular now. Tempting menu displayed on the pavement just by the steps leading up to the first floor dining room. Elegant, clean space. As soon as a table became free the excellent maitresse d' organised the table, a waiter to show us the choice of starters which included a properly cold white port. Our order was taken a little later. My wife had fried fillet of fish with chips actually very close to British fish and chips which my wife loves. Score! I have long wanted to try roast kid today was the opportunity. It was beautifully cooked, moist,full of flavour and plentiful, served with par boiled then roasted in olive oil potatoes and a side of mixed vegetables. We chose an Alentejo wine at slightly more than we usually spend today €14 for a 14.5 smooth red. All in all an excellent lunch with the whole room buzzing with happy diners and atttentive, friendly waiting staff working their buns off. €50 all in! We're going next weekend too Sunday lunch coincides with the flea market (brocante).
