I remember coming here once during a visit with some friends back before there was even a skytrain station in coquitlam. The prices are on the lower end, and for someone like me who's been slowly priced out of eating their favorite food in the world, 16 dollars for a super filling combo including the tip is like a golden shining beam of hope.I got the avocado roll sushi combo which included an avocado roll, a salmon avocado roll and a tuna avocado roll. They really don't skimp you on food. It was a full meal and some leftovers for later. The rice was Fluffy and seasoned just right, though the amount of rice took away from the flavors of the fish in some bites. The fish was fresh and delicious. The avocado was bright and creamy. It was exactly what I wanted and needed. The workers here are lovely. The woman who helped serve me was kind and accommodating with a lovely smile, even when I had to run back into the store to ask for a few extra napkins. The indoor space gives it this hole in the wall feeling. It's sparsely decorated with basic tables and chairs. Nearly unchanged for over 10 years (atleast to me). The beautiful chalk illustrations that wrap around the ceiling above the counter gives the place beautiful character, and me and my partner admired the beautiful hand drawn artwork while we waited for our food.Between the people, the price, the food and the physical restaurant space that makes me feel like I've stumbled into some secret little gem, I love it here and I'm going to be back to help curb my cravings for my favorite food in the world.
The food is just okay, prices are very cheap. The server is really rude, no smiling or kind words during our time there. She didn't even fill our water again. The place looks horrible inside: it's too hot and there are too many boxes (everything is so messy)
Love this restaurant. They have great food and I have to say I much prefer to support the mom pop restaurants
Sashimi was great. Service was alright. The food, however, requires some improvement. They were out of gyoza so we tried the veggie option and it was different. The tempura was saturated with grease but tasted alright. The rolls and salad were the best part. They have good roles. I recommend ordering bottled water here as well. Would happily pay as much as I did if we our table was happy with the food. I will come back in a few months to report any improvements to the menu.
I was quite disappointed with my sushi tonight. I have been ordering from this restaurant for yrs. and the food has always been good except for tonight. My fish had 4 large pieces of cartilage in it. One piece even had a chunk of skin still attached which made me think I was eating cheek pieces. Of course these pieces weren't found until it was chewing. My teeth are now a bit sore and I hope I didn't fracture them. I probably won't order from here againUp date: I took the cartilage back to the restaurant and after a bit of discussion the replaced 1 of the rolls I had bought the night before. No cartilage this time but I did get a bone in the salmon.
