Port House Bar & Grill - Port Elgin

We were meeting my folks half way between NS and PEI and popped in here for some supper. Supper was great, food was very hot, cooked well and very tasty.

... is the name in the window at this address. But the receipt does say Port House, so we'll go with it. Given our late arrival, it was the only place still open in the area for dinner. In spite of the lateness we were not alone fir dinner. The service was fast & friendly. When I asked the waitress her recommendation between A & B she was up-front about mentioning that B would take about 30 minutes (I must have looked as hungry as I felt). So I went with the salmon. I'm pretty sure the menu described it as grilled salmon but what I received was poached. I didn't complain as it was nicely cooked, well flavored and in front of me. The mixed veg were a sad, bland freezer variety. The cauliflower & broccoli took on the butter & pepper enough to be edible, but the carrots got left on the plate. My partner had a satisfactory burger and fresh-cut fries that were so good I wish I had got them instead of the baked potato.

I traveled to Port Elgin for work and stopped in at this restaurant for lunch. Although tiny it was full which is always a great sign. I had the soup that day and it was delicious. Service was excellent and very friendly and casual ! Just as it should be. Definitely be popping in again.

When we arrived, all empty tables were dirty. Took about 5 minutes to get seated. Nothing that looked healthy on the menu.... So we both ordered the fried chicken dinner. I asked for a side salad instead of fries. Got served fries, but she did bring a small salad. Got our food after a 45 min wait. Got our silverware and napkins later. Only diet drinks they had were warm and we were told the ice machine was broken. They finally gave us some of their limited ice supply to cool the drink slightly. Went to the bathroom to clean up but an out-of-order sign posted on the door.

Food was fairly good,service was friendly,and the portions were huge.Ate there twice and took leftovers home both times.Plain little place but a nice surprise.I would definitely go back any time.
